Are you really a follower of Jesus?

Jesus said to give up money, jobs, children, wife, parents, and follow him. Allegedly, Peter did give up all those things as Jesus commanded. Some early Christians castrated themselves for Jesus. Were those that did so wrong? Why or why not? Should everyone that claims to follow Christ follow suit and castrate themselves? Why or why not? If you are a follower of Jesus then you should follow all of his teachings. Do you think Jesus will allow you to cherry pick his commands?
