How do I stop my dog running off?

I have 5 month old mastiff and every time gate open or let off lead he legs it and won't come back? I have tried rewarding and shouting, going other way! I have two other dogs which are fine. Going to dog training and getting him castrated soon but just wanted to know any advice apart from not letting him off lead?
