Im New to fishing. Always seemd easy to me, but when i try for hours i catch nothing lol.?

I have no idea whats good and whats not. What i want or im trying to do is catch catfish or any kind of bass, i really just want to try catfish and work my way up witch ever comes first lol. i bought a lake texoma lic so thats the only place i can go, and i only fish on shore. no boat. and do not want once so please dont say hey! get a boat lol. Well i took a shot in the dark, lol i got a 15 lb rod with stock string well what it came with, reg hooks not sure of the size an number 3 an 4 size trebel hooks, im using nightcrawlers an chicken liver/ chicken blood dough bait. with no bobber. i normaly am able to go around 8pm-12am if the time matter its normaly my only free time at the moment. iv watch an learn how to put both worm an dough bait on. bet yet falls off. the worms stay alot longer but i guess its the rocks that take it. it seems like im feeding the fish not catching them. to be honnest i dont think iv ever even had a bite lol. if anye one knows what im doing wrong or what i can do to actualy catch somthing please help. i do enjoy the quite time an relax but id b nice to get somthing aswell lol.
