Can I keep my foot long catfish in a 500 gallon pond?

he's a channel catfish and i love him i just wanted to know if he can stay in my pond or if he needs more water. also, how do you tell the gender, right now i assumed he was a male so his name is freeza but i just don't know how to tell.
